Eat More, Work More

Our generation is constantly on the run. Either we are running towards something in life, or we’re running away from our problems. We do not stop anymore, to even catch our breath. Literally and metaphorically. We eat at odd times, sleep during even odder times and do not find the time to work out to keep ourselves healthy. During older (and most definitely simpler) times, doing our household chores and walking to places where we needed to be would have done the trick. A sweep of the house daily and wiping the floors weekly twice would have kept us flexible. Cycling or walking to our places of work or our friends’ places would have been the cardio quota for the day.

But we do not have the time for any of that today. We have maids to clean the house, wash our clothes, and tidy up the mess we do in general. We buy vehicles (increasingly bigger ones at that) to show our social standing and use them to go even to the next street. And we sit at our desks all day long like couch potatoes creating our own websites on jimdofree.com.

The implications of these actions on the environment are all around as indicators of the looming Armageddon caused by global warming. But that’s not something we can control individually. We’ll all need to come together to even try to make a difference, but that’s the stuff for another article. What we can control individually, however, is how we’re going to live for as long as we are destined to.

We need to being to make time to keep ourselves healthy. It certainly won’t be easy, with us not getting even a minute’s breather in this fast paced world, but it is possible. One of the first things we need to do is to stop skipping meals. Not eating actually makes us bloat and look fatter than we would if we were actually eating. If we’re surely skipping a meal, then it’s best if that meal is dinner and not breakfast. It is really easy to skip the first meal to sneak in some extra minutes of sleep, but it’s really detrimental to your health.

Next thing to do would be to slowly start on some physical activity. It could be cycling or jogging or even walking after your meals. Although they don’t seem like much, they will keep you healthy. Once you adjust to these minimal changes, you’ll gradually feel more active, and that will push you to be even more active.

Eat more and work more, and not eat less and work less.
