What Makes A Good Video Game?

In the world of video games, one of the advantages that we as consumers have is the number of options that are available to us. This allows us to explore a wide variety of genres and choose what we like. And today, these options are on the rise as well. More and more developers are taking initiatives to come out with innovative titles that challenge and thrill a player. But have you ever taken a moment to pause and think about what makes a video game good? Of course, you might say that this is a very subjective topic so each person’s answer will be different. While that is true to a large extent, we would like to deviate a little from that train of thought and look at video games from a different angle. We thought it would be fun to look at a couple of factors that make or break the quality of a video game. It is possible that you have already come to your conclusions, but we urge you to hear us out. Perhaps you will be able to take away something from what we have to say.

Challenge

If a game is too easy, we will lose interest in playing and that is the last thing that the game developer will want. More than them, we might feel that we have been cheated playing such an easy game. Take a game like Diablo 2 for example, now that is a challenging game that keeps asking you questions. And it is not always to find answers for what is being thrown at you sometimes literally. Yes, you can get Diablo 2 items to help you but even then, it is not going to be as easy as you think. That is the beauty of a good video game.

Story

A game can be the most beautiful to look at but if it does not have a compelling story, you are going to get bored with it. The story should be able to lure you in and keep you hooked. Obviously, this doesn’t concern sports games such as FIFA but since a large number of games revolve around their story, it had to be included here. Sometimes a game can have subpar graphics but if the plot is engaging, you will be willing to overlook those issues. That is what we have to say, what do you think?
